3 Things To Know About Waiting To Get A Roof Replacement

When you have to replace your roof, the entire process can be both financially and emotionally draining.

The frustration that comes along with replacing your roof may lead to hesitation.

You might say, “what could be the harm in waiting? “ Or, “the weather is starting to get cold, so maybe I should just wait until the spring.”

While waiting is sometimes an option, that doesn’t mean there aren’t important reasons you may want to get your roof done sooner rather than later.

Rescue My Roof has been in the roofing industry for over a decade, and we’ve worked with many people who share the same hesitation.

We’ve given them the same advice that we are about to give you: there are vital reasons why you shouldn’t wait.

By the end of the article, you will know whether or not your roof replacement should wait. This will help you decide whether to buy this year or next.

Should You Purchase A Roof This Year or Next Year?

There are many reasons why people may hesitate to purchase a new roof. It’s a big financial investment to tackle, and it leaves people wondering whether there are better ways to spend their money.

Or maybe the thought has crossed your mind that repairs may be better than a replacement. Regardless, here are some reasons to at least get a roof inspection now instead of the latter.

1. Roof Prices Will Increase

Some people wait to purchase a roof in hopes that they will catch a good deal or the prices will go down.

Unfortunately, that is not the case. Prices rarely go down in the roofing industry enough to see that price decrease passed down to the buyer.

Prices typically increase over time. The price of roof replacements goes up four to five percent annually.

In times of Covid-19, we have seen more drastic increases due to supply chains. The price in the last year has risen approximately seven percent.

So if you’re hoping to catch a Black Friday deal on a roof anytime soon, you are out of luck.

The best option is to purchase your roof now to avoid price increases.

If you are waiting until warm weather to begin a roof replacement but want to avoid a price increase, you can also begin to contact roofing contractors in the fall or winter.

They will be able to complete your roof purchase now and begin the installation during the warmer months.

2. Serious Roofing Issues Can Lead to More Headaches

Depending on the severity of your roof’s issues, there may not be much choice regarding when your roof is replaced.

You can get away with repairs when you have minor issues like missing shingles. Or, when you encounter visible flashings, you may be able to wait to replace your roof.

If you are experiencing a leak, that is an issue that will have to be remedied right away.

If you choose to wait on getting a roof replacement when you have a leak, you are opening the door to additional issues.

When water gets into your home, the increased moisture can cause mold and mildew as well as interior damage.

In the long run, not only will you be paying for a new roof, but to replace drywall and potentially electrical work.

This is why when you are facing a serious issue such as a leak, you won’t want to wait on getting a roof replacement.

3. Roof Replacement Can Still Be Done In The Winter

Regardless of how badly you desire a roof replacement, the winter may put a damper on your plans.

We have good news: roof replacements can still be done in the winter

Roofing crews can quickly shovel off the snow and begin the roof installation. Additionally, steamers can be used to remove ice build-up, so that they can access the roof.

While active snow may cause a delay in the process, the winter altogether should not affect your ability to get a roof replacement.

So if you are facing a serious issue with your roof and want to make sure your roof can withstand the wear and tear of the winter, you can get it replaced during colder months.

Should You Wait To Get A Roof Replacement?

When you wait to get a roof replacement, you risk increased prices and damage to your home.

In the long run, not only do you risk paying more because of price increases, but you will have to repair additional damage.

Since roof replacements can happen year-round, if you are experiencing severe issues like leaks, it is best to get a roof replacement as soon as possible.
